Results of my chest x-ray show "COPD changes are present. Nodular density on lateral view projected over heart." What does that mean?

It means that the appearance is consistent with obstructive airway disease and progressive loss of alvelor surface area. It is not diagnositic but suggestive of COPD and you need to see your doctor to have formal PFTs done for the diagnosis.

Your heart-lung films show that you have COPD, a progressive disease common in smokers. There are nodes in the left lung near the heart. You should ask your physician, not random lay people, for an explanation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Nodular densities are generally benign dense areas of tissue. They recommend having a chest xray every six months as follow up and preferably a cat scan at first diagnosis. Rarely are nodular densities signs of malignancy.
