My water heater is hissing? What's that about?

It's about 10 years old.

A gas heater's pilot light sometimes hisses. If it is electric, there may be a problem. You probably need to check all of the connection to see if they are tightly fit.

It most likely a leak somewhere. Most likely you have a faulty pop off valve. Look for leaks around your elements and fittings also.

The hissing may be due to metal breaking and popping,because it heats and cools again and again due to which flame comes and turning back off.

The number one line that comes to mind is that there could be a leak in it. There could also be a water leak somewhere in it too. If it is ten years old you might want to replace it. Water heaters do need to be replaced every so often.
