My Siamese fighting fish is sick, it appears he has dropsy, what are the chances of it surviving?

I am afraid of loosing my Siamese fighting fish, I need to know what to do in order to save it.

Sorry, dropsy is almost always fatal. You may try the following: Maracyn II and Kanacyn according to instructions. Keep water warm, 72-80 but change temp slowly. Reduce light entering the bowl by blocking with black paper or similar. Epsom salts at the concentration of 2 tsp / 10 gal water may help reduce swelling. Follow medication instructions and good luck.

Dropsy is usually fatal by the time it is detected. There are antibiotic treatments that are worth a try, but there isn't much hope for curing it.

The chances of it surviving are slim, unless you do the treatment early when it's just starting. Go to a pet store and there should be medicine for dropsy.

Maybe your having a problem with water? Treat new water with a dechlorinator, and keep an airspace of at least an inch between the top of the water to lid.
