My hamster was only 7 months old and he died. Is that normal?

Average life expectancy is 2 to 3 years. Sometimes it can be the type of litter you are using--make sure it's specifically for hamsters. Also, if he's from a pet store, he may not have been a baby when you got him, so he might have been a bit older.

Hamsters live on average 1. 5 - 2 years, so no, 7 months is not average. There are a variety of reasons that he may have passed early from a genetic disorder, accident or illness. Some common causes of illness are wet tail, cancers, respiratory infections or other infections.
