To be safe, take them to the pediatrician, but unless your child is choking or in distress, wait for things to pass... as it were. If this is a very small child I would definitely consult the doctor to make sure there is no problems in passing the quarter.

In the words of some great philosopher somewhere, "This, too, shall pass. " Children swallow coins all the time and, except in rare cases, the coins pass through the body with the rest of the waste and are eliminated. To be on the safe side, though, contact your pediatrician.

My child swallowed a single magnet, had an xray done and was told it was already in the stomach. Started vomiting 24hrs later, doctor thought it was unrelated, just the flu! She vomited it up 2 days later! lucky she didnt choke going down or up.

My 4 year old swallowed a Quarter DEC 2010. We took him to the ER Xray showed it in his Stomach. They said it should pass, but to watch for constipation and vomiting as warning signs of it not moving. Then they would hve to scope and remove.

I suggest that you wait for it to pass i. e. be passed in a bowel motion. Seek medical assistance if the child develops stomach pain or a fever.

It would be good to take your child to the emergency room because this can obstruct breathing. It may pass through them in about 5 days.

Kids swallow quarters all the time; if she poops out 2 dimes and a nickel, than you've got to worry.
