My 5 year old pomeranian has black gums. What could be the cause?

He seems well.

If the pomeranian has black fur, his gums will normally be black. This is a pigmentation issue and not a symptom of an adverse health reaction. If his gums were black from cellular death, his teeth would be falling out.

Do you brush his teeth? This happens in some dogs due to age, but it could be a sign of gum disease or something else so you might wanna check.

Has the dog always had black gums? How long have you had the dog? Gum color in dogs varies, as does fur color.
