Buy local grass seed, don't get a national brand. If you already have a lawn, rehab it by: 1) Aerate or poke a bunch of holes in the bad spots 2) Overseed 3) Dress with compost Do this in early Spring of Fall so nature will do the watering.

Yes, Vigoro is a good brand. There are many different seeds so know your growing conditions -sun/shade heat, etc. Turn the package over and read the small print regarding the percentages of different seeds.
