Is there such a thing as moral absolutes?

Yes, as defined with the 10 commandments. Even the toughest of these, forgiving those who have killed a loved one, is an absolute truth that will keep us from destroying ourselves with hatred and anger, and bringing more suffering upon our loved ones. The Virgin Mary, Jesus(before His death), Ghandi and MLK,Jr. are prime examples of this.

Most societies have prohibitions against murder and incest, so from an anthropological stance, yes there are moral absolutes. Many systems of thought suggest moral absolutes as well.

I don't really think so. There are moral issues that transcend many cultures, such as the prohibition against murder, yet killing under some circumstances is accepted. The "moral absolute" is true only for the culture that creates the belief, and may not be any sort of absolute for another one.

In some cases I personally believe that there are but the world has not reached a consensus about that. I think more things are gray than people believe.
