Question by  J (113)

Is there such a thing as a healthy cooking oil?

It seems to me that they all add cholesterol and calories.

All plant based oil is cholesterol free. They do have a high caloric count and should be used sparingly. Any oil that stays liquid tends to be healthier. Oils which stay solid (even at room temperature) should be avoided, especially if heart issues are a concern.

While they all contain calories and fat, all oils do not contain cholesterol. Cholesterol only comes from animal products, so lard or butter would contain it. Olive oil is considered the healthiest oil to cook with. It contains "good fat" and is an important part of the Mediterranean sort of diet, one that is recommended for health.
