No, Having an animal is like having a child. You must care for them in the same way. You must feed them, take them to the doctor (veterinary), love them, play with them, cheer them up when they are down (and if you've had a dog before you can tell), and it can become expensive.

"Cheap" is a relative term. $5 to one person is $500 to others. There is no "free" dog since all animals need to be taken care of as far as food and basic care. Most jurisdictions also require annual licensing for each animal and if your dog gets sick he'll require vet visits.
