Good entry level nikons include the d40 or d60. They don't have as good of low light abilities as the d90, but are good for entry level digital photography.

Yes it is the Nikon d3100. It takes solid 14.2-megapixel stills, but it's video quality is lacking despite its ability to continuously focus. It has the hp video program that most of them are using now.

The newer Nikon 'PowerShot' series are great for beginners and for advanced users. They are small, simple and easy to use, and yet still have a great screen and lens, and are decently priced. Avoid the touch screen style, however, as it has issues yet to be worked out.
