Is there a recipe for a homemade self-tanner?

The ones in the store are so expensive!

One of the most popular solutions to self-tanning concoctions is a mixture of pure cocoa powder and typical white lotion. This is also the most simple recipe. add a tablespoon or so of the cocoa powder to your lotion until mixed. This will be darker in the lotion than it will appear on the skin, so mix to desired darkness.

My father is a Finlander and would have us use baby oil and put a few drops of iodine in with it. Shake very well. When applied the combination will leave you with a tint of color. Going in the sun with this on will give you a fast tan and you need to be careful of sunburn.

Mix a 1/4 cup of regular baking cocoa with any natural white lotion and apply over face and body. This will feel a little sticky and won't produce results as fast as a store bought self-tanner but will be very natural looking and not orange at all. You should spot check it first for allergies just like anything else.

Would you really trust yourself to make your own self-tanner? I have heard that you can use tea or cocoa to "tan" your skin at home, but I think the results would be very temporary and easily wash off. You would need something stronger, like a chemical, to stain your skin. Maybe henna would work as well?
