There are actually several nerves in and surrounding the stomach, the most prevalent of which being the Vagus nerve. Most areas of the body have some form of nerve endings to alert the brain when there is damage or danger.

There are two nerves that are part of the stomach. The celiac ganglia is responsible for innervating the digestive system. The vagus nerve is often the Rambler Nerve or the Wanderer. Part of its function is to bring status reports from different organs back to the central nervous system. It innervates the lungs and stomach.
