The Rose, starring Bette Midler, is said to be loosely based on her life. However, there is supposedly a movie in the works (tentatively scheduled for release in 2012) called Gospel According to Janis, which will star actress/musician Zooey Deschanel in the leading role.

There was a movie a while back that was based on her life. It wased called the "Rose" and it stared Bette Midler. She actually sang in the movie.
