The book 'Fight Club' by Chuck Palahniuk was the basis for the film. It was written in 1996 in Portland, Oregon, the home town of the author. The movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton was released in 1999. He is also the author of 'Choke' which was made into a movie in 2007.

Yes, there is a "Fight Club" book. It was written by Chuck Palahnuik in 1996, three years before the movie was made. The movie follows the novel very closely, but there are some key differences- the ending in particular and it's definitely worth the read. The book is always better than the movie.
