IEEE 1284, aka "parallel", was the standard for connecting printers for many years. Newer generation printers are usually connected via USB or wi-fi.

The parallel port is found on the back of IBM compatible computers and is a 25-pin (type DB-25) computer interface commonly used to connect printers to the computer, and some kind of mode is IEEE 1284 parallel interface.

Well, it used to be. However, in recent years it has effectively been replaced by the universal serial bus (USB). Most new printer models come with USB which has the advantage to be standard also for other periphery equipment. Moreover, some newer computers do not have parallel port any more.
