Is the American legal system protecting or jeopardizing our rights?

It seems to me that the legal system does a little of both.

The American legal system protects our rights, however the interests of the common good as a whole and the interests of an individual are often competing. For example, issues of national security are prevalent, as properly enforcing national security generally results on an invasion of individual privacy rights. Conversely, an expansion of individual rights may hard the common good.

I think they are not protecting our rights. They are jeopardizing them. I think soon we won't have any rights.
