Question by  Tabsy (11)

Is textile medium really helpful when added to acrylic paints for painting on clothes?

Will it help prevent cracking or peeling? I would love to hear from someone who has tried it.

Textile medium is essential when painting on fabric. When you take the time to paint designs on fabric you want to make sure they stay on and don't peel off. Fabric medium is a bonding agent for the paint so when you put it on the fabric it adheres well. I wouldn't attempt fabric painting without it.

Acrylic paints are water-based, which means when you wash your clothing, the dried acrylic will "reactivate" in a sense and chip, crack, peel, and possibly stain other clothes. Adding textile medium changes the composition of the acrylics so that none of those things happen. I've had very good luck with it and wouldn't attempt using acrylics on fabric without it.

In my experience a textile medium has in fact been extremely helpful when added to acrylic paints. When you are painting on clothes it prevents peeling.
