It most likely means that your cat is having trouble digesting its food. Felines are natural born meat eaters and many of the cheaper brands of cat food contain a lot of grain. This causes stomach upsets, smelly stools and gas. Upgrade your cat food to a better quality and see if this solves the problem.

I would recommend taking him to the vet and checking for intestinal parasites or other gastrointestinal problems just to be save. My 5 month old kitten had stinky stool and gas and it turned out to be Giardia!

Just as we are what we eat, so is your cat. I'm sure it's nothing serious, try and figure out what it's been eating and that should be your answer.

First I would think about your cat's diet. If this has changed, then it may be the cause. Sometimes even just feeding your cat a little bit of table food can cause smelly stool. So go back to having your cat eat his or her normal diet. If not and it doesn't clear up in a week, consult your vet.

In most situations, no. More commonly it is just something that your cat ate. It could partially be due to an upset stomach in which case your cat would probably quit eating to save itself the discomfort. You should really pay more attention to the consistency and the color of the stool for changes.

If your cat's diet has changed recently, new treats included, the food probably does not get along with your cat's digestive system. It's normally dietary, though it can indicate an infection if the cat is also behaving oddly. Look into varying the cat's diet a little to fix the problem and supplying a mix of wet and dry food.

Some cat foods really stink so maybe this is why the stool stinks. If you're worried consult your vet for advice.
