Use colors from Sherwin-Williams, it is the best paint you can buy and also has great colors that compliment well. A great combination of their colors is Latte, Portabello, and Tea Chest. Very neutral and rich combination of tans and mid-dark browns. Other great combos are Sanderling and Foothills as well as Coastal Plain and Refuge.

Complementary colors are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. For example: green/red, yellow/purple, orange/blue. Try to keep the colors in the same value or saturation - e.g. very vivid purple will overwhelm pale yellow.

Most of the rooms are painted in neutral color like white or grey by proper mixing up of complementary colors for better looks. Most of the family rooms must be painted in white color so that it reflects white light to provide good lighting. For kitchen it's better to choose grey color.

Find a color wheel online or in a book, and you'll see complementary colors opposite one another on the wheel. You could also use two shades of the same color.

I just recently painted my living room an hallway mint green with an off white trimming around the top and my kitchen is mocha with a light beige cabinet doors. My living room carper is a very dark green and my counters tops are dark green as well so this mellows everything out and looks much pretty than boring white.

Of course pick a color that goes with your scheme, and always test it before fully painting. Earthy hues are warm, and compliment everything, including a simple cream.

My kitchen is currently a lovely shade of very pale blue, with white cabinets, and the living room is sea green also with white trim. Green and Blue are wonderful complimentary colors.
