Is raking leaves necessary?

What happens if you don't do it?

If you don't rake leaves, they decompose where they are. It is not 'necessary' per say, but if they get rained on a lot or covered with snow, they turn into a mushy gross mess. Also, they don't decompose fast enough for it to not be a bother. It is better to rake leaves. It doesn't take that long.

The only real reason why people rake leaves is for the cosmetic appeal and the convenience of not having to walk through dirty leaves all the time. I find them attractive. If you don't rake, they'll partially blow away, and partially build up and disintegrate back into dirt/earth(or compost).
