The rash caused by poison ivy is not contagious. If you have resin on your skin (the oil found throughout the vine, roots and leaves) you may pass it to someone else. The resin can be transported on you clothes or skin, so it's highly recommended to take a shower as fast as you can and clean you clothes.

Poison ivy is contagious if the person exposed is allergic to poison ivy. Not everyone has an allergic reaction but most do. Be sure to wash your sheets and clothes separately so the poison ivy does not transfer to other's clothes.

No... it is not contagious. The spreading of poison ivy is due to different factors, that is,when resin touches the skin or clothes.it sticks there until it get washed off.so people should take bath or wash the hands properly.Prevention is always better than cure. The less time the resin sites on the skin.the milder reaction is likely to be.

Poison Ivy is an oil, and is contagious until you wash everything it has touched(clothes/hair/pets). As soon as you wash the oil away, it is no longer contagious at all.
