Is it safe to purchase discontinued cosmetics?

I know that cosmetics have a shelf life and want to make sure the products that are discontinued are not done so because of age.

Cosmetics are usually discontinued because of lack of popularity, not age. Stores are only allowed to keep products on their shelves for so long getting a discontinued product just means you most likely won't be able to buy it again because they're not making it anymore.

It is pretty safe to buy makeup that has been discontinued. Sometimes things are discontinued merely because there was not enough demand for that item from different consumers. It is not always because things are old or there is something wrong with them. Makeup lasts a while before it starts to age so you should be okay.

Discontinued items are sometimes discontinued because they were limited edition or unpopular. It doesn't always mean that they are "old", but it is possible to get an old product. If the item smells or is discolored, it is best not to use it. I would stick to more powder substances like eyeshadows or blushes.

It's safe to purchase discontinued cosmetics as long as you use them right away. Don't keep them longer than 6 months.

Yes. Sometimes manufacturers will discontinue a color that is not selling well to make room for new colors. Sometimes they will do the same thing with product types. Like they might discontinue a gloss stick and add a gloss wand to their lineup. Check date to be safe though.
