It is generally safe to chat anywhere as long as you do not give out personally identifying information, such as your name, location, school or work, et cetera. Anonymous chatsites and bulletin boards are quite popular and safe, if you remember to keep yourself anonymous.

It is safe only if you do not give out very personal information. If you tell them every detail about you and things like that, it can be very unsafe.
