How can I find interesting, wholesome chat groups?

It is very difficult to find wholesome chat groups, as there are usually "flamers" waiting to "troll" and disrupt the fun of others. I suggest starting with a forum, seeing if you share a lot in common with its users, and then seeing if they have a website at which they often chat.

Do a basic search on google or whatever web search engine you prefer. Type in 'Chat Rooms'. There are a bunch of java based chat rooms where you do not need any type of account to create a screen name before entering the room.

First, remember to be careful and never divulge personal info. To find groups, try googling things of interest to you be it cooking, gardening, crafts, etc. Look carefully at results for forums and chat groups. Visit those sites and just observe before posting. You'll find groups to join. I repeat, do not divulge your personal information in posts!

Avoid chat rooms that are geared toward singles or which are categorized by age, sexuality, or region. Try something more specific. If you like coin collecting, join a coin collecting chat room. If you like movies, join a movie chat room. You might still find some unsavory characters, but there should be a lot fewer of them.
