It is possible to network two computers together with a modem. This is called a point to point connection, and is very slow in comparison to todays standards.

There are many options when it comes to sharing a dial-up connection. You can install a Internal Modem and Network Card (NIC), a Network card in the other and configure them as a network. Also, there are External Cable/DSL routers that are combined with an external dial-up modem. These are available at Best Buy.
