Yes. However, dogs that are purebred are pretty hard to come by in places like shelters so you should put your name on a list at your local shelter in case one comes along. There are also breed rescues that will rescue purebred dogs you can adopt.

Australian sheperds are a mix of an australian and american dog. In the US, there are no laws preventing the adoption of these dogs, so the answer is yes.
