Really it depends on the style of the dress and how you accessorize it. If it is something like a flowing cotton-based dress, it would be fine in summer, but if it's made of wool, tweed or anything thick, it's best to put it back in the closet. Try making it more summery by adding brightly colored shoes or purses.

Brown is another color choice for summer clothing. Although light brown is a better choice than dark because of its' lighter color quality, both colors of brown shades are acceptable. Stay away from pairing other dark colors with the brown. Pastels go well together with brown. Also, bright colors also look nice.

Yes, it is ok to wear a brown dress at any time of the year. In fact, the white rule apparently no longer applies, either. It's acceptable to wear any color any time of the year. There are still the traditional rules in the sense that you shouldn't wear white or black to a wedding however.

Brown is a color that can be worn all year round. It tends to peak in the fall, where the color goes with the changing leaves.
