Yes, it is. For very young children, a quick slap of a hand reaching out to touch a hot stove is not only appropriate but far better than the alternative - trying to talk a child out of doing something dangerous and seeing them get seriously hurt.

While parents still do this, hitting a child is never recommended and is usually not a logical consequence for what the child has done wrong. As a parent you should try and find logical consequences that will explain to the child why their actions were not tolerated.
