Is it okay to paint veneer?

Yes it is. You first have to rough up the surface. It is best to sand all areas to be painted with a medium grit sandpaper first and then apply some form of primer.

Yeah it would be okay but I don't imagine getting a great effect out of the paint. That is a reason why people usually don't paint veneer. It's a long process to ensure it's safe.

It is no problem to paint veneer, as long as it is de-greased properly, and treated with steel wool to open the surface. Don't use emulsion paint though: just lacquer / wood paints.

Doing this is a big risk. If the veneer is very thin or is not glued well to the substructure you run the risk of it de-laminating or (peeling up) Aside from that, if you use a good primer like BIN or Killz, the paint will adhere just fine.

You can paint veneer but it usually requires a little bit of extra prep work. If the veneer is glossy you will need to lightly sand before painting.
