The Florida State Highway Patrol has high standards for its officers. Most are college educated and/or have a military background. Background checks, testing and physical fitness are all part of the selection process. Check the FHP website for more information about a career.

The first step is to find out when the requirement exam will take place. Go online and research former tests to see exactly what they require. Once you take the test and pass your name goes on the waiting list. People with military or government experience will be given preference, so if you don't have any please be patient.

It is not hard to become an FHP officer, you must be 19 years of age, a U. S. citizen, have a correctable vision of 20/30, color distinguishing abilities,140 degree vision field. A valid driver license is required plus thirty semester hours at an accredited college.
