Be careful of suckers. They grow on the stems of these violets and can deform or even destroy them. Carefully take them off. it's quite a chore but very necessary - do it regularly.

Look out for aphids too - they are leaf green insects and will cause your flower to fall off very fast! That will be a waste of all your hard work.  add a comment

It's easy to start off - you can get one at the supermarket (make sure the leaves are green) or buy them at a nursery. if that is too bothersome just get a few leaves from your friend and use the cuttings to start off!

It is difficult if temperatures vary a lot or you water them the wrong way. You'll need to be quite careful with them.

Long violets are a little particular about the temperature at which they grow - the prefer 70°- 75° daytime and never below 60° night-time. Be careful in winter especially during the nights. They also prefer rich soil - you can get specific soil for them in most gardening stores.

Also choose specific fertiliser for these violets - your supplier will most probably recommend something.  add a comment

If you know the basics its not too hard. Violets require a lot of attention and you need to be careful with them. First don't let water get on the leaves. If it sits around it causes little spots of dead leaf. Do not place them in a lot of sunlight. Remember to prune away dead leaves and flowers.
