Is it cheap to produce coins?

No! Coins are really more expensive to make than face value, for instance 1.23 cents per penny, 5.73 cents per nickel (in 2006)

Unless you are talking about those gold/silver coins that are worth a lot more than their face value, most coinage costs less than its face value to manufacture. It is not as relatively cheap as producing banknotes, but the durability of coins means they're worth making for general use.

It's actually that important to know that only %2 percentage of the money have been made is physical means you can touch it. The other %98 amount of it is virtual so purchasing power directly depends on the money created in Banks and loaned for interests. Producing coins is cheap but what it cost humanity a lot called slavery.
