Is it a good idea to install plastic tiles?

This is very difficult. Take your time in choosing a design. Buy tiles that are easily removable in case you change your mind later. Home Depot has a great selection of plastic tiles and the assistants there can help you in choosing the right designs for your home.

That depends it is much cheaper than ceramic or stone. It can look very nice, however it is made out of PVC and does'nt have the same durability.

If you are going to do tile I would do ceramic tile. This never goes out of style and adds a great look to the area. Plastic tile looks cheap.

I would advise against it. Especially if you have a large dog in the house. Their nails - no matter how short can rip through them.
