Is felting hard to do?

From observation, it is not hard, the difficult part is determining the size difference between the starting project and the finished project. I observed the knitter make the desired object in the scale that was advised and when she actually felted it, it did not reduce to the proportions desired. Finding the proper ratio can be trial and error.

It's actually so easy that many people do it accidentally by throwing their knitted wool items into the washing machine! All that's required in felting is a piece made of wool, water (I hear that warm or hot water works best), and friction: Ravelry is a good place to find tutorials.

The secret to felting is to knit with a yarn that has a high percentage of animal fibers, it won't work with synthetic fibers. You need to wash the knitted item with very hot water using a washing machine or by hand, the movement and rubbing will make the yarn felt and the item shrink.
