Canned crab meat is real crab. Although not as good as fresh, you can save some money by purchasing canned crab meat instead. Another alternative is artificial crab meat. This is usually produced with a white-fish and processed into crab shaped formations including chunk and legs. While not as authentic, this is also an alternative.

Yes canned crab meat in a can is real crab. Its not as good as real crab meat that you cook yourself but good for recipes.

There is a good brand out there and yes it's really crab. It is white and claw meat from the blue crab. It's Miller's Select Premium crab meat.

The label on the can should be able to tell you if it's real. Typically, real crab meat has words such as "claw meat" or "jumbo lump" on the label.
