Is AVG virus protection effective?

I need a new anti-virus program.

Yes, AVG is a very effective and reliable antivirus, and it's free in its basic version. I also suggest Avira Antivir (free, but it has annoying splash screens from time to time) and Avast! (personally my favourite, the home edition is free although you need to register to obtain a key and renew it every year - for free)

AVG Anti-virus is a good software but it's not perfect. On a scale of 1-10 the program is a 7. In my opinion, the best anti-virus programs are ESET NOD 32, Kaspersky and Avira. These are very good and I guarantee you that you will have no more problems with your PC.

I have used AVG for several years and have never had any problems with viruses, The key to using AVG or any Antivirus software is to keep the databases up to date and you should have no problem.

AVG is reasonably effective, a fairly high detection rate (about 95%) and a reasonably fast scans. But it is not perfect; need additional precautions to keep your computer secure.

I personally use AVG and it works pretty well. I also run adAware for extra protection. Just follow safe computing procedures and you should stay safe.
