I think aloe vera is most helpful in the treatment of burns, but since aloe vera is soothing and said to promote healing, I would say aloe vera would be appropriate to use on stitches as well. I certainly don't think there would be any harm done in applying aloe vera to a wound.

Aloe Vera can be used over stiches to decrease healing time, and reduce the appearance of a scar. Use caution when using aloe vera for the first time as some people have an allergic reaction. Test on a section of your skin. If it gets red or you break out in a rash do not use aloe vera.

Scientific evidence from studies on using aloe vera have been somewhat contradictory. Some studies have found that it helps some have found that it does not aid healing. Aloe vera is more known for its ability to aid in the healing of minor burns. I would suggest that with stitches it would be better to not use aloe vera.

Some physicians may advise one to put a triple antibiotic ointment over stitches. Aloe vera would not be recommended while the sutures are in place.
