The green puffer fish lives in brackish water, not pure salt water and not fresh water. You will need aquarium salt and a hygrometer to keep tabs on salinity

The natural habitat of the green puffer fish is freshwater to brackish water. It can live in both a freshwater and saltwater tank. Some people believe that saltwater is better for it as it matures.
