In Hinduism, what is the desire for liberation from earthly existence?

I would like to learn more about Hinduism.

Depending upon the specific sect of hinduism, there are many beliefs on liberating one from earthly existance, but most revolve around the idea of non-attachment. The idea is to free oneself from the attachments of the physical world in order to liberate the soul from the prison of the corporeal body.

Through Karma (right action) and Dharma (following one's duty), Hindus achieve release (Moksha or Nirvana), from reincarnation (Samsara) and unification of their individual soul (Atman) with the universal soal (Brahman).

This Indian religion has a concept of nirvana which just means release from all the things that give us stress in this life. It does not mean anything to do with death, but it does mean wanting to let go of desires, emotions and things that tie us down.
