Did the universe come into existence from nothing?

According to the laws of physics, matter and energy can't be created from nothing. Therefore, the universe must have been created from something, even if we never know where the original matter came from.

Current theory states that the universe was a singularity containing all the energy that is in the universe today, which expanded to our present universe. It is also theorised that there may have been another universe before this one, and ours was started in a big "bounce" instead of a big bang.
