FIP or Feline infectious peritonitis is the kitty strain of the coronavirus. FIP doesn't usually cause a fever. Most people don't know the cat has the virus until their abdomen starts swelling or they are dead from brain swelling. There may be some warmth at the swelling. FIP is silent until it is too late.

Feline panleukopenia is an extremely common, very contagious, and often fatal viral disease which occurs in cats. This disease is commonly called distemper, and most often the first signs are fever (frequently 104-105). The normal resting cat usually maintains its rectal temperture within the range of 101. 0 to 102. 5.

An FIP infected cat will run a fever of 103+ However, fever is not diagnostic of FIP. Any cat running a fever should be seen by a vet. And symptoms such as poor appetite, not grooming, weight loss may or may not be symptomatic. Changes mean seeing a vet.

FIP is a serious feline disease and your cat could experience a temperature if ill. Consult with your vet regarding symtoms to watch for and for treatment.
