I have a dish that calls for white wine. Is it the same as white wine vinegar?

Not quite. You can substitute white wine vinegar for white wine in cooking, but you will want to dilute it. Ideally, you should use white wine juice to dilute it, but almost any juice will work; it depends on what you're cooking. You can also dilute it with a little water or chicken broth.

LOL no, too sour! White wine vinegar is made by allowing the alcohol in white wine to change to acetic acid (vinegar). Use grape/apple juice to substitute for white wine.
