I am the executor for my dad who is in Ohio in the VA. My brother says he won't tell me when my dad dies. What should I do?

He said he's not going to tell me so I don't know how I'm supposed to know when my dad is dead.

Do you keep in contact at all with your dad? in my opinion you should be in contact with your dad, therefore should know when he passes away. I have a feeling your brother is telling you what he is becuase he is sad and upset that you are currently not being in your dad's life.

If you are your dad's executor, the VA should have info about you as family to notify. Notify the hospital that you are the next of kin and executor. There is a record of your appointment as executor; you will be notified of his passing, if not before.

Death certificates must be filed when someone dies. Contact the local public records department for instructions on how to get a death certificate. You can also monitor local newspapers for obituaries.

If your dad is in a hospital or nursing home, then you can ask to be notified of his death legally as next of kin and as his executor.
