You should take your kitten to the vet at about 6 weeks for a worm prevention and exam. The first set of shots will be give at around 8 weeks.

I don't know how it is in other states, but in my state a cat is required to have a rabies shot by the age of 3 months. That would suggest that they can get their shots early on. Maybe you can consult your vet on this matter.
