One of the best ways to clean a needlepoint picture would be using a product such as Resolve fabric cleaner. Just like you would clean drapes or a couch, you can use a spritz of fabric cleaner and rub lightly on the needlepoint picture with a rag or paper towel.

What I do is to soak the needlepoint in soapy water. Definitely do not scrub it with anything. Just swish it around for a few minutes. Avoid using the washing machine. I also just hang it on a clothesline to dry.

Use Woolite for wool fibers and any mild and colorless soap for cotton and synthetic fibers. Dab gently with an absorbent towel and do not rub.
