Yucca plants need direct sunlight at least several hours daily or they will not grow. They tolerate drought. Water only when soil begins to dry out. They do not have to be pruned or trimmed, as they grow very slowly.

Well, adequate water supply and nutrition is actually very essential and make sure that you are trimming the leaves that turn brown.

If you live in the North, yuccas need extra care in order to survive through the winter. A potted plant will die, it must be transplanted into the ground and covered with leaves or a thick layer of mulch. All cover must be removed in the spring. Yuccas are sensitive to overwatering.

They do not have to be pruned or trimmed, as they grow very slowly. You can fertilize every few years with a specific fertilizer rather than all-purpose, so do a soil check.

Make sure it has good sun and well drained soil. After the plant has bloomed (every other year) be sure to cut the stalk that the flower came from.

Outdoor yucca plants require very little care. You can trim the brown, dead leaves if desired, however they can be left on for a more natural look. Keep an eye on the trunk for any fungus or insect growth. If you identify either of these, contact your local gardening center for the best treatment options.
