How old does currency have to be to have added value?

I have some old coins but I don't know if they are old enough.

Generally, the older the currency is, the higher the value. For the most value, the coins should date back to the 1800's at least.

Some times age has little to do with a coin's value. Some coins were minted by the millions, others only a few thousand and that factors in to how much a coin is worth. Also where a coin is minted, if there is damage to it and overall appearance play a part.

Old coins are not always valuable. It depends what shape they are in, and if there are any defects, such as a misprint.
