The minimum age for Olympic athletes is 13. Athletes are required to submit proof of their birth or age to make sure no violations are made. In the '08 Olympics, the Chinese gymnastics team was criticized for falsifying documents so underage athletes can compete. Some people are against the minimum age rule.

A contestant must be sixteen years of age or older or be turning sixteen in the year that the Olympics are being held. While it is allowed, its rare to see people entering the Olympics at that young age, but its not unheard of, as China had several young ladies in the gymnastics competition in 2008.
