Obviously the true value includes sentimental value to the athlete, and collectors would surely pay a premium for such an item. However, each gold medal contains at least 6 grams of gold, and at $1130/oz, the value of the gold is about $240.

Like anything when it comes to value, it's worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it. It's not a service, so it doesn't have an exact value.
